john piper from UK/Thailand | Signed on: Sun Dec 27 01:18:51 2009 I knew Jonathan for years when he lived in Surrey and we travelled to Holland once or twice. Then I lost touch with him around 1979/1980. Later I wanted to see him again and found that, very sadly, he was dead. I really regret that. Anyway back in the 1970s he gave me a cassette of 3 tracks he recorded so I could deposit them with my bank - this was thought to be way of establishing copyright at the time. I have now digitised these and wouldbe happy to send them to anyone who is interested. Excellent music IMHO! |
winny kas from zundert | Signed on: Wed Jun 24 23:08:33 2009 Nostalgisch, 3 akkoorden, geweldige, punkrockende website. Many rock 'n' roll regards winny kas http://www.ramones.nl |
Phil Berent from New York | Signed on: Tue Jun 2 14:40:02 2009 Im so sad to hear that Jonathan (as I knew him) has passed away. I knew him when I was 12 years old and living in Hampstead and he initially came to us from an agency as a house cleaner. He soon became good a friend to me and my mum and started giving me guitar lessons. He was 19 years old and of course I looked up to him and in many ways he became a big brother to me. Unfortunately at the time he was using heroin and started coming less and less. One day I came home from school to find him and his wife at the house. I cant remember her first name but her last name was Redwing. They had just got married – I think the day before – but had been evicted from their flat and had no place to go. He was going though withdrawals and she was sleeping off a mild overdose of something in our spare room. His face was covered in spots and he was shaking so badly that when my mum gave him a cup of tea I remember that he couldn’t hold it and it fell on the floor. I was so shocked that this made a lasting impression and when I later started smoking weed, unlike some of my friends, I was never tempted to try heroin – for which I will always be grateful to Jonathan. I went to school the next day but when I came home he was gone. My father had come home from a business trip and had decided that having him there would not be a good influence for my brother and me – and error for which I never truly forgave him. I’ve been looking for him on and off for the last 38 years, checking the internet periodically and even going as far as hiring a private detective in 2000 - who traced him as far as living in Fortune Green Road (north London) in 1984. I really regret that I never got the chance to meet him again and renew our friendship. Still I’m so happy to see that he did find musical success – and seems to have had a pretty good and full life in the next 10 or so years after I knew him. Best wishes to all Phil Berent |
